Well, this week I have a lot to write about and last week I had nothing…or actually what I had to say wasn’t going to be very positive or motivating! I am not sure how I am going to fit everything in… I had a great weekend with friends from high school and from the neighborhood. The train crawl (some of you I told I was going on) was a success-depending on how you look at it. We were only able to stop in Edison Park, Palatine, and Barrington, but I was READY and ABLE to teach my class at 7:30 AM Saturday morning. So, I had a few drinks on the route and ended with a delicious meal in Barrington, McGonigals. I had the pulled pork-it was good! Here is one picture from the night. I honestly couldn’t add the group shot because it was not a good picture, I just couldn’t do it. This one also had another No Excuser!!
Last night I had the opportunity to go to my FIRST BLACKHAWKS GAME! We were celebrating a friend’s 40th Birthday!! We had so much fun and we even got on television. All of our phones started buzzing a little after the second period…the kids saw us! 🙂
WHAT TO EAT AFTER A WORKOUT? How about before the workout? I want to emphasize that to improve muscle repair, you want to make sure you eat something high in protein within 30 minutes of your workout, this is when the muscle breakdown is taking place after a workout. You need to eat PROTEIN to help with the muscle repair. I have been very lucky that I like the taste of Arbonne’s chocolate and vanilla protein powder and as soon as I get home I make myself a shake. Besides actually liking the taste of the shake (my kids do not) I like that it is lower in calories and sugar than other powders. Also, according to an Arbonne Rep (K.D.) there are no GMO’s in the product either (if that is something you worry about). Sometimes protein powders can taste really good, but they are full of sugars and calories…just something to pay attention to. Don’t forget about the egg bake…check back in the recipes on the website!!
Other ideas for some protein after a workout would be eggs, peanut butter on a low calorie piece of bread (ezekiel bread), or chicken breast (for those afternoon workout people). I have also been trying to eat before a workout, if I can remember. I used to always eat a 100 calorie granola bar (another idea would be a small bowl of oatmeal) before a run, it was always enough to help. I don’t know what happened when I started with the bootcamps (lack of time in the morning or forgetfulness), but I stopped eating before a workout. I am trying to get back in the habit of doing that. However, you need to know that you should NOT be eating your source of protein BEFORE the workout, PROTEIN is for AFTER!! Protein only supplies energy when you have pushed yourself into that negative energy threshold and you should not be there for your 45 minute workout.
REALLY QUICK RECIPE FOR THE WEEK:
2 Packages of Chicken Breast Tenderloins, 1 bottle of Masterpiece BBQ Sauce or Sweet Baby Ray’s—-Put chicken and sauce in Slow Cooker and let it go for 3 hours on high. Shred chicken in crockpot. Serve on a bun, or salad, or plain. I also made some Alexia brand onion rings.

That being said, I will be taking a break for the next 6 weeks from the 4:15 afternoon class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Holy Cross. I will check back in January to see if there is an interest for that 4:15 slot. I also want to see if there is an interest for me to run a Wednesday evening class?? I could do 7:30-8:30pm or 7:00-8:00pm or even 8:00-9:00pm. It would be 5 Wednesdays for $50 (no class Wednesday, November 27th). I need to know by November 1st if you are committed. Email me.
